Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition

Lets take this outside. It's more like let's take this to the bathroom. I'm spending more time on the toilet these days thanks to Street Fighter 3D. I can't have something like wiping my ass distract me from getting that win. *washes hands*

Street Fighter 3D is the best Street Fighter I've ever played. I go back with the series. I remember playing as Ken in Street Fighter II Championship Edition on Sega Genesis. 20 years later I still play as Ken. It's pathetic to be honest. I love playing as him, and I hate playing against him. Whenever I face Ken I'm reminded just how cheap his moves can be. Stupid fire uppercuts.

The graphics to Street Fighter 3D are nice. After many hours I can say the game really is in 3D. It took me a while to get used to it. I found the 3D effect looked best when the stereoscope on my 3DS was set low. Whenever I cranked it up I couldn't see things clear unless I held my 3DS farther away which isn't easy when I'm playing in bed. I think the 3D effect looks best when multiple things are happening on the screen, such as the "Round 1. Fight!" sequence. The levels look nice in 3D. My favorites were The Beautiful Bay, Drive In at night, Historic Distillery, and the Training Stage.

In 2D the game still looks nice. The only issue I have is that the things in the background of every level are frozen. You might remember how the people in the background were moving and doing things in the console version. It's not a big distraction, but I noticed. The fighters look better in 3D. The 3D backgrounds really brings out the detail in the fighters. Reason why is because the fighters appear to be closer than they are in 2D.

The controls are excellent. No additional controller necessary. I love the heavy punch and heavy kick on the Shoulder Buttons of the 3DS. I don't know why people such a big deal out of it. I find myself to be a better fighter with the 3DS controls. I use the D-pad over the analog stick for the most part. It gets a little frustrating when the move I want to do isn't done, but I blame that on poor execution on my part. I liked the moves on the touch screen. It gives the player a fighting chance.

Online fighting is still top notch. I got sucked into fighting online pretty quick. When I first started I won 20 matches in a row. All of a sudden the fighters got serious and I was on a losing streak. Before I know it I had invested well over 3 hours into my first session of Street Fighter 3D. It's a good thing the battery life isn't that long on the 3DS. My biggest problem with online fighting is the Fight Request system. Once it's turned off you can turn it back on unless you restart the game. I wish there were a way to turn it back on without going back to the menu screen.

If you own a Nintendo 3DS you should check out Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition. I did it to check out the 3D graphics and I stayed for the gameplay. If your online and you come across ErrolGames be prepared to get your ass kicked by Ken. See you there.

#E3ForME

E3 is my destiny. I didn't know what a gaming convention was like until I went to the inaugural PAX East in 2010. It didn't take long for me to realize I was built for this. I have possible interviews both Jim Sterling & Hood News arranged for E3. I feel important.

Jim Sterling is the voice of the gamers. I don't even know where to start when I think of the success he's had as a gaming journalist. I describe him as a "Game Journalist 2.0." It's an honor and a pleasure to be given the opportunity to meet a legend in the gaming industry.

Hood News is the voice of the streets. They're the one's that caught the infamous tape of rapper Charles Hamilton getting punched by that girl. Classic. They report real issues that pertain to the lives of Black people in America. I saw a video where they filmed a person being arrested just to make sure the man wasn't being mistreated. It's an honor to be given the opportunity to be interviewed by the same people who have interviewed Kid Cudi.

I just have to make it to E3, How do I get a press pass into this event? Losers would make fun of the fact that I had I three day pass at PAX East. I like my 3 day pass. It showed I wasn't a conformist like the losers that were hating on me. If I have people in the gaming industry hating on me I must be doing something right. I deserve to go to E3. You will see me there. I just need to find the 3 day pass with my name on it... #E3ForME

Blame Anonymous

Let me get this straight. The weekend where Xbox attempts to break a World Record with Xbox Live is the same weekend the Playstation Network is down. Conspiracy? Just blame anonymous.

I know how much it sucks when the PlayStation Network is down. I couldn't play Heavy Rain because the game needs to connect to the PSN for trophies (lame.) I can only imagine what it's like for the COD heads out there that have been dieing to whoop some ass. It must really suck for the people that rented Socom 4 on Tuesday only to have one day to enjoy the game online. It probably sucks the most for the people that are trying to get the PlayStation Network on it's feet. The long nights, and stressful phone calls. Damn you anonymous.

The Network is still down. Sony said it'd be back in 48 hours. That was four days ago. To the people behind the scenes this blog post is for you. It's not fair that a bunch of people who want free stuff can do so much damage to the PlayStation Network. Hackers want to attack a the big wigs at Sony, but it's the workers who take all the damage. Then again if the security was tighter...

Should I Be Excited About Portal 2?

Portal 2 was arguably the hottest game at this years PAX East. No matter what time or day you went, the line to the Portal 2 booth was long. Here I was excited to play the Nintendo 3DS while everyone else seemed to want to play Portal 2.  Do they know something I don't?

I never played the Orange Box. First reason was because I didn't know what it was. Team Fortress? Is that an expansion of Half Life? What I got from it was The Orange Box was a bundle of different first person shooters in one game. Not really my style. The last first person shooter I finished was GoldenEye on the N64. Despite all of the good reviews I just couldn't bring myself to give The Orange Box a try.

Portal 2 has me interested. It could be the ads I see on buses as I travel to school, or the commercial I see whenever I watch TV. I think it's ultimately the lines I saw at PAX East. People were determined to play this game. The little information I know about it is that is has a Co-Op mode which is a plus in my book. I just wish some review scores would pop up. Portal 2 is in stores tomorrow for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. I might have to check it out.

The Return of SSX

I wasn't too excited when SSX: Deadly Descent was announced at last years abysmal Videogame Awards. The brief trailer suggested that the game was going to be focused on racing downhill.

"Racing is more important that the tricks"
is what I thought when I saw the title "Deadly Descent". There was a silver lining in the trailer. No gameplay footage was used. This gave journalists the freedom to make their own conclusion about what they saw. I think EA Sports wasn't sure what they wanted the next generation SSX to be so they presented what they had.

Good News. Ubertricks are back.
Earlier this week, EA Sports announced they had dropped the "Deadly Descents" subtitle from the title. They also came with information about what to expect from the new SSX. There will be 3 different events, Racing Descents, Tricks Descents, & the new Deadly Descents. They also said they want to keep the games over the top nature in all three modes. I hope that means the game would is more like SSX: Tricky than SSX 3.

SSX Tricky > SSX 3
SSX: Tricky is arguably the best game in the series. The replay value of that game is enormous. My friends and I spent hours in trying to beat our high scores. I believe my highest score was in the millions, but it's been years since I played SSX: Tricky. SSX 3 was fun. The whole "one mountain" concept was cool, but I put way more hours into SSX Tricky. If the new SSX can top SSX: Tricky then we're in for a classic. Welcome back SSX. It's been a while. I look forward to hearing about your release date.

Dear Mike Vick,

I give you props on your Madden campaign. Last time I checked you were winning against Patrick Willis, but everyone knows it's going to come down to you and Aaron Rodgers. It's anybody's guess as to who is going to be on the cover.

You've made it very clear that you want to be on the cover of Madden 2012 on Twitter and Facebook. That's cool, but why not bring your campaign to the gamers? They are the people who wait in line to buy the game you're determined grace the cover of. How cool would it be if Mike Vick, the man who turned down Oprah, did an interview with Errol James? Errol James has been a videogame journalist since 2009, and he wants to talk Madden 2012. I thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Errol Games

RIP Motorstorm Apocalypse

Motorstorm Apocalypse can't get a break. The game was scheduled to be released a week after a 9.0 Earthquake struck Japan, and was delayed around the world as a result. The delays began in Japan and trickled to Europe which also scheduled Motorstorm Apocalypse to be released a week after the Earthquake in Japan. The delay in Europe was understandable. I figured the release date of April 12th in North America would be solid since it would be a month since the disaster. I was wrong. Days after delaying the game in Europe, Sony announced they were delaying the release of Motorstorm Apocalypse in North America. I knew the game was doomed after that.

It was only a matter of time before another natural disaster would strike somewhere in the world. Unfortunately that natural disaster struck Japan again. A 7.4 earthquake has struck the island today in an apparent aftershock from the 9.0 earthquake last month. Tsunamis are now expected to strike the island. My thoughts and prayers go out to Japan. Today's earthquake isn't helping the release of Motorstorm: Apocalypse.

If you have a copy of Motorstorm Apocalypse I strongly suggest you don't open it. It's only a matter of time before the game gets canceled, and the copies that are available become collectors items. This could be worth more than Dragonball GT: Final Bout if you play your cards right. I know there was a round of copies that were available in Australia, and there are review copies floating around. Good luck finding a copy. You heard it first.
